Upcoming Indianapolis First Friends Convergent Event

Posted on: October 7, 2008

Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Stacy and I’m from Baltimore, MD. I went to college in Indiana so I still have some roots there! I am part of a conversation among Quakers about the Emergent Church. Its formed the title Convergent Friends, from the meld of CONervative Quakerism and the EmERGENT Church.

Since writing a paper on the subject and speaking last March at a national Quaker conference, I’ve been asked to speak about the Emergent Church and its relationship to Quakerism at Indianapolis First Friends Church. (http://www.indyfriend…)

I will be speaking this Saturday night and Sunday morning. On Saturday night there will be a dinner around 6:00pm followed by a introduction to the emergent church and the convergent Friends conversation. On Sunday morning from 9-10am there will be a combined adult Sunday School class about the ongoing evolution of the conversation and where it may led. Sunday morning worship is from 10:15-11:15 where I’ll share my spiritual journey into the emergent church conversation and hows its applied to teaching in a public school.

I would love to have some people from other meetings, churches and denominations present! The community of people I’m involved with in Baltimore are made up of a wide variety of people. As you all probably know the emergent church movement is hard to define because it is based so much of personal exploration and community experiences. Please come share your stories about your relationship with the Emergent Church conversation with us!! Or if your interested in the emergent church or the quaker response to the emergent church please join us this weekend!

Sincerely, Rachel Stacy
